Migrating workstations in Active Directory |
|
|
Is there any automated way of migrating workstations (computer objects) from
one forest to another, so that when a user logs into their system (or
reboots) that their system is automatically in the new domain/forest? |

Indeed, there is. It's called the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT).
You'll need a trust relationship between the two domains in order to migrate
the workstations.
Active Directory Migration Tool v.2.0

You could also use the netdom.exe (command line) utility to do the same
task, but ADMT should be easier.

Yes ADMT will migrate the workstation into the new domain but won't
automatically update the workstation to default to login to the new AD
domain.. to do that you will have to create a script to update the client
(there's a technote VB Script example of this..)
