NT4 Upgrade to 2003 - Group Policy at remote sites |
|
|
I am planning an NT4 upgrade to 2003 AD this weekend. However, I was
wondering how remote NT4 BDC's will be effected by the upgrade. Based on
everything I've read using 2003 interim is acceptable and will happily run
both 2003 DC's and NT BDC's. What are some pitfalls or issues I should be
aware of with this environment until all DC's can be upgraded to 2003 AD?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but If start using group policies with the new 2003
AD, only machines that authenticate against a 2003 DC will apply the
applicable settings? In other words, remote sites will still authenticate
against their local NT4 BDC ? and NT 4 doesn't understand "group policy" so
nothing will "trickle down" to those users/computers? Any info/tips on
running a 2003 AD interim domain with NT4 BDC's at remote sites is greatly
appreciated. TIA.

It should be said this way, only 2000+ PCs understand group policy. So it
only applies to 2000+ domain OSes.
