Hi

I have a small business server 2000 background and I am a bit unsure as to
how to access win xp pro pcs in a win2k network. Here are my questions;

Do I need two nics (like sbs) one each for "internal" & "external" networks?
If not do all machines including the server connect straight to the router?

In sbs we place ISA Server between the "internal" and "external" networks.
If there are no two nics with win2k server and no ISA Server, how does one
protect the server?

John,

For XP clients you can have one PC work as the router (ICS) with two nics or
you can have a dedicated router that will handle the gateway role. Your
choice.

The router will have some sort of hub or switch hanging of the internal NIC
interface, all other machines connect to the hub or via wireless the ICS
machine or dedicated router will handle the internal DHCP or static IP
routing to the external internet interface.

The ICS machine has a firewall, or if you go with the dedicated router they
usually will have some sort of firewall and port filtering.

Hmmm.I am bit surprised. I though the win2k server will come in somewhere in
the configuration (like the sbs server in an sbs network) but I guess not.
