Hi All

I am not to aufait with IP addressing. I am trying to implement one domain
to span across two sites. At present one site has an IP addressing scheme
of 192.168.52.0 and the other is 192.168.2.0. Would I have to change the
scheme of the second domain to maybe 192.168.51.0 to allow AD replication
across the sites using Active Directory Sites and services.

Regards.

The actual addresses have nothing to do with replication. Changing the
ranges so that they look better is simply aesthetically pleasing to anyone
that looks, and often gives a semblance of order. However, it matters not
to Windows.

If you want Windows to replicate across sites you need to configure an
adequate network topology. Smaller organisations will have two Internet
connections (one at each site) and use a VPN; large companies will have
leased lines between offices.

Either way, you configure this through routing devices such as Routers,
firewalls or proxy servers (I'm thinking ISA here).

There's nothing wrong with three sites having 10.150.34.0/24,
184.127.196.128/25, and 170.33.33.0/23.

AD Sites are a way of telling the AD that there are physically disparate
sections to the directory, and replication needs to handled differently
thus.

Sites also localise traffic; they stop logon traffic, SYSVOL access, MP
access, etc. from crossing site boundaries and therefore saturating your WAN
links (Internet connection or leased line).

Perhaps if you can elaborate and what you would like to achieve, one of us
can help??

Goal
To have one domain, across two sites.

I have to migrate the second domain into the new domain created. I used the
restore from media method to obtain a copy of the database locally. I now
have to use ADMT to migrate the users and computer objects in this domain.

My area of concern was how to setup AD sites and services to perform the
replication of the data and what addressing scheme I would have to use
locally.

OK,

Here's a How-To for Sites:
-- I can't find the "How to: configure active directory sites" but these
two may help

You can use any addressing scheme you like (as long as there's enough
addresses for your nodes). If this is a small-ish business, then you may be
restricted to the 192.168.0.0/16 net by your gateway (cable or DSL modem/
router) hardware.
