I am running a SBS2003 server and the other day I created a 2 new user accounts, but Outlook gave strange errors when I tried to setup it on the client machines.
First it complains about not being connected to the exchange server.
Then if it was run in cached mode, it complained about the location of the ost file.
If it ran in non-cached mode, then it complained about not being able to open the folder set.

The user had no problem in logging on to the domain, which is run on from the same SBS server.

Older users have no problem are not experiencing any problems.

A check of the event logs gave no errors at all.
I then checked the Exchange System Manager where I could see that the users where not created with a mailbox.
It does not help to remove and recreate the user and any other new user will experience the same error.

I have tried to unmount and remount the store to no avail.

When I try to access the users Mailbox Rights under the Exchange Advanced tab, I get an error message saying

The operation could not be completed because the store is not mounted.
ID no: c1041732
Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension

As far as I can see the user creation is not correctly accessing the Exchange Extension, but I have no clue on how to fix it.

I have searched the web for solutions, but no luck.
I have found a few attempts to solve the problem, but they have not helped.
This include the check of user rights on the mdbdata folder.

Please help! Smile

Just a little note on what the problem was for users with the same problem in the future. Smile

The problem was located in the user creation wizard on SBS2003.
The wizard change the default store for some unknown reason and tried to create new users in the recovery store instead of the first site store.

I did not bother to fix the wizard, since I do only rarely create new users.

Instead I just create users with the wizard and then user Active Directory Users and Computers to correct the problem.
Its just rightclicking on the user and then selecting Exchange Tasks... to delete the mailbox and the same again to create it again in the right store.

I hope this will help those who get this error in the future. Smile
