I manage a windows 2000 domain using WINS and DNS. Is there any way to resolve a DNS name in windows explorer without using host files. For example, I have computer named foo on my network and created an entry in DNS called bar.mydomain.com mapped to foo. I want to be able to NetBios into foo by typing something like "\\bar\sharefolder" in windows explorer.
I have tried static WINS entries, DNS Host and CName entries. All to no avail. I can't be the only one to have had this problem and there is suprisingly little information in Microsoft support on how to deal with this. Please help
