When a user tries to access their mailbox they get prompted for a username and password and the following gets logged in the security log of the exchange server.

Logon Failure:
Reason: An unexpected error occurred during logon
User Name: John.Doe
Domain: mydomain
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: NtLmSsp
Authentication Package: NTLM
Workstation Name: Workstation1.

This error occurs intermittently for many other users and a user can wait a couple of minutes, and go right into Outlook. We are in the process of migrating users from a Win2K AD with Exchange 5.5 to Win2k3 AD with Exchange 2003. The error occurs when a user tries to access their exchange 5.5 mailbox (before they actually get switched to the 2003 mailbox) wiht their 2K3 AD account. A trust has been created and SIDFiltering has been disabled. This only occurs when a user tries to access their 5.5 mailbox as when this happens, access to mapped drives, shares, etc is not affected. There is a firewall between the domains.

There is no pattern to the error as its very intermittent. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
