Renaming the domain in SBS03 |
|
|
I setup SBS last year and was not using exchange externally. had 2 users and they both used POP3. Now I have 5 users and I want to move to a exchange enviornment. My big mistake was I named the domain mydomain.local instead of mydomain.com. Do i need to rename the domain and if so does the domain rename utility new for server 03 work. Any help would be greatful.

Hi,
your AD domain name is mydomain.local. This has no bearing on the mail domains you use in your organisation therefore the domain renaming tool will is not needed and will not help you with this. the user@mydomain.local is only a way of uniquely referencing users/objects in your Active directory domain.
As long as your user accounts in AD have Exchange mailboxes and have their primary email addresses set up as the user@mydomain.com and your exchange server can handle mail for mydomain.com then this will work for you absolutely fine.
many organisations have different names for their AD domains and their mail domains. One of the domains I administer does. |
