Migration from NT 4 to 2003 |
|

I've been assigned the task of upgrading our network from NT 4 to 2003 with AD, as well as a migration of Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. The first step, of course, being to upgrade the domain to 2003 Server. There's a post here from someone who experienced a similar issue: http://www.winserverhelp.com/ftopic64249.html.
Our new HP server does not support NT, so I cannot install it on there, and do an upgrade to 2003. There are currently 4 BDCs, and 1 PDC. All of the BDCs have legacy software (Exchange 5.5, Goldmine, etc.) that will not run on 2003, this I will deal with later on. I will not be able to update any of these DCs right now. The PDC is not doing anything other than normal PDC roles. However, it's a P4 3.0, so I can't keep this as a PDC, it's just temporary.
If I were to upgrade the PDC to server 2003 with AD, how would I go about migrating everything over to the new HP server, which I would have to do a fresh install of 2003 server on. Would this be done through ADMT? Please excuse my ignorance, as I’m not overly familiar with AD and this project is quite the learning curve for me (this is just the tip of the iceberg).
I understand that the remaining BDCs will see the new 2003 AD DC as a NT PDC, and replicate as usual and use NTLM to authenticate. What sort of issues should I expect with this scenario?
Any input would be appreciated. |
