Cannot contact DNS Server |
|
|
Hi,
Currently, I have a DC/DNS on my network.
I tried to configure a second DC/DNS for my network. The AD is downloaded successfully, but the DNS Snap-In gave me the below error when I tried to connect to the new DNS Server.
The error message is:
"The specified DNS server cannot be contacted. Some possible reasons include: the DNS server may not be running, there may be network errors, or the computer associated with the specified name or IP address could not be found."
Later, I reinstall the server and configure it first as DNS server, and was able to assess the DNS Server to set as secondary zone. However, once I promote the server to DC, the same error message appeared.
I was wondering is there any extra steps that I missed out to confiure the second server?
Please help me. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Is your first DC/DNS server setup correctly? Does it contain it's forwarders, is it pointing to itself?
Does your new secondard DNS server point to itself or point to the pimary DNS server? It must be pointing the (first) primary DNS server.
Second are you running DCPROMO and installing DNS server? You must setup your 2nd DNS server as a secondary server, and when promoted login as the network admin, password, and domain name.
