Does anybody know how to open up a single WSS site that is under the portals
virtual server. For instance I have a site located at
http://portal/sites/wss_site
How can I only use SSL on that one WSS site?

I don't think this is possible, unless that one wss site is contained within
it's own virtual server in IIS. There isn't a way to isolate one site as the
entire site structure is not contained within IIS and therefore you can't
assign SSL to just one site. You would need to assign it to the Portal site
and then all wss sites would inherit this SSL setting.
