We have a Dell Powervault 705n NAS appliance. It is running a slim down
linux/unix OS. It is accesible thru a web browser. It is configured to use
the domain to Authenticate the users who connect to the shares.

We have a 2003 AD with 2 domain controllers. One was running Server 2000 std
and the other 2003 std. This weekend we upgraded the 2000 DC to 2003. After
the upgrade, the Dell PV would not authenticate any users.

Is there some issue with 2003 and older NAS devices that would require a
2000 DC to remain in the domain.

If you upgrade all DCs to 2003, does that automatically raise the functional
level of Active Directory?

In the interim, I built and installed a 2000 server and dcpromoed it as a
DC. I also moved the PDC-emulator role to it. Now, the NAS appliance will
authenticate.

Is there some security setting I can open up to allow the 2003 DC to
authenticate the request from the NAS appliance.

Thanks,
CMedina
