Hello,

I have a minor problem that I hope is easy to solve.. When I add a new
server to my network no A or PTR record is put into DNS.. Everything is
Win2k3. I get a DnsApi warning in the event logs wich reads like this...

he system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network
adapter
with settings:

Adapter Name : {42147D15-4815-445E-960B-B9538F438140}
Host Name : pdxdcc
Primary Domain Suffix : example.com
DNS server list :
192.168.0.202
Sent update to server : 192.168.0.201
IP Address(es) :
192.168.2.10

The reason the system could not register these RRs was because either (a)
the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol, or (b) the
authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic
updates.

To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the specific DNS domain
name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network
systems administrator.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at ..

I will point out that the server that is trying to register is a new box in
a seperate network segment or subnet... so my DNS server is 192.168.0.x and
this new server is 192.168.2.x. I was able to join the domain no problem and
log in.. I have run the portqry command to check port 53 and it is
listening... Not sure why no records are being update in DNS??

Thank you,
Noah

it sounds like it tried to resolve the DNS entry , but something
blocked that from happening.

are you sure that you set the zone to allow dynamic updates?
