Is NLB only for one location? |

I need some help and clarification. We have two servers running at the same
time answering requests to users in their cities. We want the two to also be
able to doppelgang as one or the other.
From the Network Load Balancing Best practices page (listed at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/planning/nlb.mspx),
one item states, "Ensure that all hosts in a cluster belong to the same
subnet". I understand this to mean that the servers must sit together. We are
searching for a solution that enables us to have a IIS server fail in New
York and automatically rebound with the secondary server in China. The only
way I can see this happening is if the the DNS is updated to map to the China
server automatically. Otheriwse without changing the cluster's IP, network
engineers would need to modify the routing for the cluster's subnet by
advertising it as a network in China and not NY taking every IP in the subnet
along with it.
Also, Sharepoint Portal in combination with NLB will not solve this problem
either, correct? There is no mechanism in combining the two that will enable
failover to Sharepoint servers in disparate networks?
Is there something I can investigate in Windows 2003 that will do this? |
