Execute 3rd PArty Products via MOM |
|
|
Is there an SDK, or Management Pack to allow me to create an interface
from MOM into a 3rd party product?
This is to enable me to access MOM and then have the capability to
start up an external non-Microsoft product via the MOM interface?
Am thinking of perhaps configuring Tasks, or perhaps using MCF but can
only find references in MCF for just sending alerts to and from 3rd
party products, e.g. OpenView, Patrol, etc.
Many thanks

Hi, Lars.
Thank you for your swift reply. Wasn't expecting anything so soon :)
I utilise a 3rd party Message Tracking product, to monitor SMTP / X.400
/ Exchange traffic for various platforms, including NT, Unix, etc.
The product can monitor the flow of messages from originator to
destination, in the process providing details diagnostics of the
message and how it progressed.
Am wondering if MOM can provide access to thie product and vice-versa?
I have read some MOM Tasks literature but not pursued it until 'now'.
Thanks again
Dave. |

Hi Dave,
You can find the SDK here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mom/downloads/sdk/default.mspx
It sounds very much like you should consider using tasks. But if you could
provide a little more information on what you want to archive maybe we could
help you better.
Thanks

Hi Davs,
If you want to raise alerts based on information in your 3rd party products
you might want to look into creating your own script/management pack. The
easiest way is if the product can generate some sort of alerting that a MOM
script can pick up, things like SNPM traps, syslog messages, eventlogs or a
simple text file. I have done some work on using MOM to alert from Snort
(Intrusion Detection System) and here I found that a simple text file
provided the best result.
If you want to launch the product from the MOM console you should look at
creating tasks.
Thanks

Thanks Lars.
It does look like TASKS are the way forward and I will look into this
further.
Many thanks for all your help.
Best regards
Dave. |
