Hi,

Our SharePoint Server went down..windows problem, unrelated to SharePoint.
We have restored it from a backup but now the event log is full of errors
like:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 3090
Date: 11/11/2005
Time: 10:27:05
User: N/A
Computer:orgportal
Description:
The gatherer files from the previous checkpoint cannot be restored, and this
action cannot be completed. The gatherer will attempt to restore the files
again. If the problem persists, restart the service, free system resources or
verify that your hardware is working properly.

Context: http://orgportal/ Application, Non_Portal_Content Catalog

Details:
The content index is not loaded. Stop and restart the search service. If
the problem persists, review other errors in the event log. If necessary,
delete and recreate the content index. (0x80041117)

For more information visit
http://www.microsoft.com/servers/redirect/contentredirect2.asp

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Is there a way to reset/delete the index?
When we click on site settings-->Configure search and indexing it times out
loading
We have tried restarting the Microsoft SharePointPS Search to no avail, it
gives a 1053 error i.e. The service did not respond to the start or control
request in a timely fashion

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi I figured out that by removing the index server temporarly, all the
content indexes are deleted and enabling it again allow you to recreate them.

When you say remove it do you mean uncheck it from the topology page in
Central Admin ?

For future reference if you enable advanced search administration mode from
Configure search and indexing you then gain the ability to reset or delete
indexes. You can also create new indexes if you like.
