Dear all,

I have an opportunity to get a second hand server for my own for file
archiving and Web server. The type of this server is the following :

IBM xSeries X342 Pentium III 1.13

As I do not know so much non server hardware, I was wondering if anyone
could telle me if he has any experience of this material and if Windows OS
installs and run without any trouble ?

Thanks for your help
regards
serge

no experience with the hardware at all, but some common hints:

1. The main resources you will usually need are memory and harddisk
capacity.
So if there is a lack of one of these two - hands off.
2. Old hardware (as new one, but with higher risk) can break whenever the
time is gone.
So never try to rely on that system without an solid backup solution.
3. Check IBMs websites for compatibility with the OS of your choice.
4. If there is no separate closed server room - try to hear the machine
first. Especially older servers did not care about the cooler noise and disk
noise at all. So if you dont want a plane (noisewise) in your working room,
check this carefully.
Best greetings from Germany
Olaf
