Working outside port 80 |
|
|
Hi,
If I want to work outside port 80, I need to set the
developerTools.xml as illustrated by you from some posting here. But I am
using WindowsXP and it only has a default port 80 with no other port exposed.
(this is my development PC). If I want to use it on port 81 of a Windows
Server 2003 PC, which is suppose to be the MCMS server to the project, how
can I go about doing it. The MCMS sever do not have Development tools like
Visual Studio Microsoft.NET installed. Only the.net framework exist. Hence
there should not be a developertools.xml around right? Can I conclude I can
only use port 80 unless I install development tools in the server?
Thanks |

Hi JJ,
the developer tools can only work against the local machine. There is no way
to connect the developer tools to a remote machine.
See here on how to setup a shared developer environment:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnmscms02/html/Office_CMSSetUpSharedDevEnv.asp
Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Which means if I want to place the site on let say port 81 then I got to
have developer tools on both machines and also having both their
developertools.xml contents changed to port 81.
Thanks Stefan, now clear my views. Another thing it shall be a virtual
directory instead of web site to be created in IIS in a remote machine right?
In Windows server 2003 there are 2 choices, web site and virtual directory.
Thanks!

Hi JJ;
the website needs to be a website.
And the MCMS template project will be a web application (virtual directory
with application flag).
This will usually be created from VS.NET.
Only a web site can have a port number.
Cheers,
Stefan
