On a peer to peer network email box size per user using Outlook 2003
was restrcited to the max size of the PST i.e. 2GB - what is the max
size of an email box/account under Exhange 6 SP2 for an individual
user and for the Exchange Server as a whole.

Thanks & Regards

Mahmud,

That depends on whether or not you have policies setting mailbox size
restrictions and/or since you mentioned having Exchange SP2 whether or not
you've added/changed any registry key settings to increase the size of the
mailbox store. For example, if you don't have any mailbox size restrictions
then the size of the mailbox store has a limit of 18g in size (up from 16g
prior to SP2). Keeping in mind that with some registry key changes that can
be increased up to 75g now with Exchange 2003 SP2. Course, assuming you
have more than one user on the Exchange server, then that size would be
divided between the user's mailboxes.

For more information regarding Exchange SP2 and the registry keys you can
adjust for the database size check out the following

As you indicated, std Outlook PST files are 2GB, but starting with Outlook
2003, you can use Unicode format, which allows a PST file to be something
like 20GB in size!

Now, Exchange has been limited to16GB total for the private store, and 16GB
for the public store. But the recently release Exchange 2003 SP2, has up
that limit from 16GB to 75GB. By default, SBS 2003 will limit each users
mailbox to 200MB, but that can be overriden on a per user basis, or on a
server wide basis. For example, I usually find that there's one or two
people in most companies that will store everything in Exchange. So I set
their individual mailbox quotas higher than the default.
