Computer/Domain discovery |
|
|
I think I must have missed something. How do I get MOM to do a domain wide
discovery of all my servers etc? I thought I had l aunched it correctly but
I guess not. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

I have been trying that but nothing seems to be working. All of my servers
are based on names of cities here in the US. For example, DesMoines for a
database server, Waterloo for a Web server etc. If that is the case there is
no string to do a search on. So how do I drill down to get it to discover my
servers?

Jeff,
You could try using a wildcard to catch all computers in the domain and
then select Servers so that only servers are discovered. I have not
tried that myself but it seems the logical way to do what you are
wanting to do. Otherwise, you would either have to find some type of
pattern to the server names you can match with a wildcard or else
create a separate discovery rule for each server. We actually do the
latter and have created separate discovery rules for each of our 630
monitored servers because it allows us to completely delete a server
from MOM by deleting it and its discovery rule, so it doesn't show up
in Unmanaged Computers.

Thanks for the replies. I have been fiddling with wildcards but no luck yet.
It is probably just a matter of getting the right combination. Again since
I am only testing it is not a hot issue but I want to nail down how to do it
in case we push forward with this product.
