What is included in System State for backup streatagy? |
|
|
Hi,
We are planning to implement backup stretagy for the Windows 2000 server
with SP2 and server as an active directory server with DHCP. We are planning
to include system state backup for the recovery, Do we still need to include
folders like
"Documents and Settings" or " Program file" or is it included in the part of
"system state" backup. What problem we may face during restore if we do not
include this folders?
Thanks in advance. |

No, "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files" are not included in the
System State backup. To build up your confidence in the backup process,
you must do a full restore to a spare disk. This serves two purposes:
- It shows you exactly what's being backed up.
- It gives you the assurance that you can do a successful recovery. |

And for additional info, here are the components included in System State:
Boot files and system files
Registry
COM+
System files under Windows File Protection
Active Directory, directory service (if it's an AD domain)
SYSVOL folder (if it's a DC)
IIS Metadirectory (if IIS is present)
Certificate Services database (if it is a Certificate Services Server)
Cluster Service information (if it is part of a cluster)
