Does Safe Mode work, from which you can run a CHKDSK against the system
drive? If not, read further. If it does work in Safe Mode, it could be a
corrupt file which needs to be corrected by a file system integrity check.

Remove the hard disk from the system, place it in another system where you
can run CHKDSK /R /F against the drive. After corrections are made to the
indexes and MFT put the drive back into the original system and it should
start up normally.

Alternatively, if a copy of NTFSPRO and NTFSCHK or ERD Commander 2000 (or
above) is available, boot the computer from a startup floppy, then run the
command NTFSCHK against the drive which is the equivalent of running CHKDSK.
If the machine is CD-ROM bootable, then you can boot directly to the ERD
Commander console, open a CMD window, and run NTFSCHK.

NTFSPRO and NTFSCHK can be obtained from www.winternals.com, tools which are
a must have in an enterprise environment.

If unsuccessful, reboot tapping F8 each second. Select "Last known good
configuration" at the menu. If that fails, reboot tapping F8 again this
time choosing Safe Mode. Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue
started: Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:
