Document properties not updating the library metadata |
|
|
I thought I new the mechanism for Office document properties and the
way Document library metadata is updated but this one is foxing me ..
If I create a new document from the 'New Document' link in the library,
i.e. use the template; save the document and populate some metadata
from the dialogue box that appears; When I return to the library, none
of the properties have been updated, not even mandatory ones.
Now if I edit the document and look at the properties in Word - They
are still there - fully populated!, and if I try again to change them
they do not get updated in the library.
If I use any other method to add a document to the library, everything
is fine ?!? i.e. use the Upload feature to add a document then play
with the properties it is as expected.
Even adding the properties to the template doesn't seem to help.
Help! what am I doing wrong ? |

I think I have found this out. - If you save the document as a 'Word
97-2003 & 6.0/95 - RTF *.DOC' The problem manifests itself, i.e.
properties are not propogated into Sharepoint.
What you must do is save the document as a 'Word Document (*.doc)'. I
guess you must force a format change for the mechanism to work.
The problem stems from the fact that the template document in the
library was in the older format.
Comments anyone ? |

I think I might have answered my own question:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;275188
This article describes problems when using spaces in your library
metadata column names.
I tidied them up and it seems to work now.
However, I now appear to have the same problem in a Portal library that
doesn't have spaces (hmm...). |
