Re: Transferring DNS zones to another server (Win2003) |

My program needs to move a bundle (hundreds) of DNS zones (not AD
integrated) from one server Windows 2003 server to another.
I do this by exporting/importing registry values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS
Server\Zones and copying the corresponding zone files.
After importing I perform restart of DNS server service.
The problem is that DNS didn't "see" these zones not via DNS MMC
nor for
answering DNS queries.
I can't point out exactly when it loads the zone information, but
after
playing with the service a long time (restarting it and creating DNS
zones
manually thru DNS MMC), it starts to see my imported zones.
What is the way to make DNS server service to load imported zones
during the
first service restart?
P.S. My destination server generally has no any DNS zones before the
import.
Restarting of machine impossible.

Using DNSDump makes moving zones from one server to another a breeze.
