There are alot of people answering that by switching to office 2003 that they
will be able to see the upload link but I have windows xp and office xp
connecting to a sharepoint portal server and I see the link.

My problem is that when I connect remotely, even with 2003 loaded on my
machine I can't see the link?

Can anyone help?

Try re-running Office 2003 on the client in question, choose the advanced
setup option, and make sure the Sharepoint components are selected to be
installed.
