We have a situation in here, we have been making some practices using windows
2003 server Enterprise, now we want to start making a cluster, is there a way
for learning pospuses to configure a 2 server cluster without using any
external storage device?

We downloaded the documents related to configuration of clusters but
everyone talks about using external storage devices.

So.. any ideas?

Thanks a lot

iSCSI for a physical test lab
VMWare or VS 2005 for virtual test lab

We are using Historian 3.0 and we want to make it redundant, the only way to
achieve this is using a Cluster the iSCSI is not a solution for us and the
SAN is not available, how can we make it work using vmware?

Thanks a lot

Why is iSCSI not an option?

As to VMWare, it takes a bunch of odd tricks to make it work. You will
probably want to google on it.

Virtual server is pretty well documented here:

I take it that your limitations to storage are based on current
infrastructure and as such can't implement iSCSI or a SAN as such it would be
hard to use clustering to make an application redundant without shared
storage. You can either wait for VMWARE ESX 3 which is released in Jan 06 and
supports NAS (you will still need gigabit). VMWARE currently would not
produce a redundant solution as it would need a SAN to provide full hardware
redundancy. How does your application work as it may be possible to make it
redundant without using clustering?

Alternatively are you looking for a better software recovery position if so
VMWARE could help?

It appears that he wants to "practice" and is not making a production
environment. Otherwise, I would have provided a different answer.

you can use a single server to practice this with vmware server 1.0.3.
you will have to setup some shared virtual scsi buss on the VM servers and point them to the virtual Hard drive files, and disable the disklocking, but I can help you with this if your willing.
