I migrated my NT4 domain to W2K3 months ago and it is still in mixed mode.

For some time I have had a problem and it is beginning to drive me nuts.

Large file transfers (well 12mb+ that is) to the server or heavy data
processing (sage data check) cause a Windows delayed write error.

I read an article that suggested SMB signing could be a problem and so
disabled this on the server and I believe the problem went away although I
cannot be that sure as I don't do this sort of transfer that regularly.

Somewhere along the line I thought the problem had gone and reenabled
signing on the server (or perhaps a hotfix did that for me :-)

In any case the problem is now consistantly reccuring.

Having replaced all the kit in between the server and workstation, I am
beginning to wonder whether this is a network authentication issue (I often
find that on a reboot I lose my network drives and the event log reports an
attempt was detected to to "hack" or something similar on the network)

Starting, then with Netdiag on the Workstation I have the following strange
looking errors :

NetBT name test. . . . . . : Passed
[WARNING] At least one of the <00> 'WorkStation Service', <03>
'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names is missing.

and

NetBT name test. . . . . . . . . . : Passed
[WARNING] You don't have a single interface with the <00> 'WorkStation
Service', <03> 'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names defined.

and (important sounding)

Redir and Browser test . . . . . . : Failed
List of NetBt transports currently bound to the Redir
NetBT_Tcpip_{91F63529-991F-48B2-A185-6770711F6621}
The redir is bound to 1 NetBt transport.

The browser is bound to 1 NetBt transport.
[FATAL] Cannot send mailslot message to
'\\COTTAGE*\MAILSLOT\NET\NETLOGON' via redir. [ERROR_BAD_NETPATH]

and

DC list test . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
Failed to enumerate DCs by using the browser.
[ERROR_NO_BROWSER_SERVERS_FOUND]

and finally

Trust relationship test. . . . . . : Passed
Secure channel for domain 'COTTAGE' is to
'\\two-towers.cottage.sads.com'.
Cannot test secure channel for domain 'COTTAGE' to DC 'TOWER'.
[ERROR_NO_LOGON_SERVERS]

Kerberos test. . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[FATAL] Kerberos does not have a ticket for
host/jonrlapxp.cottage.sads.com.

Can someone tell me, is there something wrong here? I am also planning to
use Network Monitor but seem to be able to find extremely little information
that describes how I go about even running the network monitor let alone
evaluating the results. Do I need SMS?

thanks all,

jON

Hi Jon,

Thank you for posting here.

However, migration newsgroup is forcused on the process of migraiton
between 2 domains. I think following newsgroup would be more approprate for
your issue:

microsoft.public.windows.server.networking

Thanks for understanding.

Best regards,

Vincent Xu
