DNS Issue? |
|
|
I have 2 or 3 machines (out of 50) that will not resolve the server
correctly. If I browse to \\server, it only shows the docs folder but if I
browse to \\server.domain.local, everything shows up fine. This is only on
these machines. Pinging the address shows the correct IP address. We only
have the one server so it is doing DHCP, DNS, AD, and files.
We are also using redirected docs so when we log on we get the Offline Files
warning.
The machines are running fully pached Windows 2000 and the server is 2000
Small Business Server.
Any ideas? |

Check the following on the workstations that you are having the problem with:
1) There are no entries in the LMHOSTS file
2) There are no entries (aside from 127.0.0.1) in the HOSTS file (both HOST
and LMHOST are located in %Systemroot%\drivers\etc
3) Check that the systems network settings have the appropriate domain
suffix. That is that the machines fully qualified domain name (FQDN)
contains domain.local. You can check this by typing IPCONFIG /ALL at the
command prompt.
4) See if the servers are using a WINS system for name resolution. If so,
check the WINS system to see that the SERVER's name translates to the proper
IP address.
