Hello All,

So here is the issue: Alerts are not being sent from SPS to an e-mail
address. They are being sent from WSS. I can not seem to figure this one out.

Any thoughts...

Thanks,

Neal

Check your logs. I have seen this behavior before and it turned out to be a
Windows Server hotfix not a SharePoint fix.

You want to look at the notification log for errors.

Do you know what hot fix it was?

Hello Neal,

There are a few reasons that we see this type of a situation. The initial
alert email is sent. Then, subsequent alerts are not delivered or are delivered

to some users but not others. Without seeing the notficiation trace logs,
it's difficult to diagnose the exact problem. It could actually be a security

problem that is not obvious. If you are running prior to SP1 of the operating
system, I would suggest applying the following hotfix: Windows 2003 security
SDK hotfix Q834859. This hotfix is located at http://hotfix/search.aspx?search=834859

Another area that you may want to look into is whether or not the service
account has permission to the read AD user object of the alert recipient.
The alert recipient is the person that setup the alert is expecting an email
to be sent to them when an item is added or modified. If the service account
(the account under which the notification service is running) does not have
the authority to read the TGGAU attribute of the AD User object for the recipient.
KB Article 894632 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;894632)
was writtent to assist in granting permissions to the SPSAlert service credentials
so that it can read the TGGAU attribute.

Also, it may be as simple as someone has modified the XML templates for the
email itself. In SPS, you have the ability to customize the XML files are
responsible for creating the notification emails. If an XML error was introduced
into the template files, then the email would not be created and it would
fail "silently".

Nope. Sorry but I lost access to the account I had all of that information
in. If you find errors in the log you can google the hotfix. That was how
I found it.
