Mixed W2k server and 2K3 environment |
|
|
I have a W2K server (DC). It runs exchange server and holds lots of Data. I
basically want to move the "data" to a new 2K3 server and make the 2K3
server FSMO but leave the 2K server running exchange.
My plan was as follows. Install the 2k3 server and make it a DC (dcpromo?)
Copy all the shared data to the 2k3 server.
Make the 2K3 server FSMO.
Can this be done? Does anybody know of any pitfalls to watch out for with
the mixed server environment?
Thanks in advance

Hi Ada, MUST I upgrade the 2K box to 2K3. It is low on space and not the
most stable of platform. can the 2 different platforms not co-exist.
Cheers, Gary

Hello Gary,
No, you needn't upgrade the server from 2000 to 2003. You can refer to the
"how to add new Windows Server 2003 domain controllers to Windows 2000
domains" section in KB to add the new sever 2003 into Windows 2000 domain.
The 2000 and 2003 servers can co-exist in Windows 2000 domain.
For the detailed steps, please reference in KB 325379.
325379 How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325379
As to Exchange 2000, you can also take a look at "Microsoft Exchange 2000
in Windows 2000 forests" section in KB325379.
Hope it helps.
Hope it helps.
