Migrate Local Accts to AD |
|
|
I have a stand alone server that I want to join to an AD domain. How do I
move the local accounts and security groups to the AD?

If there is no existing DC, promoting this server into a DC will
automatically upgrade the accounts. If there is an existing domain, these
accounts will be lost. I'm not aware of a tool that will migrate them. In
this scenario, you will have to recreate them.

Yes that will work. As long as the target domain is in Native Mode.

Thanks for the response Paul.
That's what I thought. I did have an idea to create a seperate domain with
the stand-alone and use the ADMT to migrate the accounts to the current
domain and remove and re-install AD on the stand-alone joining the current
domain.
Kind of a messy solution, but would that work?
