I am configuring Print Service I have 1 LU that's configured as a print LU
and I have 3270 session configured on the print service
when I start the SNA service the print LU status is available and when I
start the print service the LU status turn in SSCP and the printer status
turn into available but nothing work
I searched the SSCP status and it came out to be that the LU is in use but
is not yet bound to a specific host application.
am not a mainframe guy so am feeling lost here and the mainframe guy tried
to set it up but it's his first time to set a remote printer he used to
configure printers that's connected directly to the main frame using IBM
Emulation cards and coax cables
so I guess we are missing something on the host side any hints that can help
on that?

Ahmed - an SSCP state is good as that shows it's connected to something.
Double check the LU number on the PU for the printer, against the LU number on
your connection definition. Also check the mainframe definition is either a
type-1 or type-3 LU and not a display type-2 by mistake.

Can you post the PU/LU definition from the mainframe?

hi Neil
below is the PU/LU defenetion
we use PET18 for the printer the other LUs should be used for TN3270
*
PUE PU ADDR=C6,PUTYPE=2,NETID=NETA,MAXPATH=3, *
MAXDATA=2012,DLOGMOD=D4A32XX3,ASDP=YES, *
LANSW=YES,IDBLK=05D,IDNUM=00006
LUE LU LOCADDR=0,DLOGMOD=IBMRDB,ISTATUS=ACTIVE
PET11 LU LOCADDR=2,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET12 LU LOCADDR=3,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET15 LU LOCADDR=4,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET16 LU LOCADDR=5,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET17 LU LOCADDR=6,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET18 LU LOCADDR=7,DLOGMOD=DSC4K
* LOGAPPL=RSCS
PET19 LU LOCADDR=8,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
PET20 LU LOCADDR=9,ISTATUS=ACTIVE,LOGAPPL=VM
*

also here is the RSCS TN3270E Printer Link definition from the RSCSTCP
CONFIG

*
LINK PRNTEST SNA3270P * * * 2 FIFO * PET18 DSC4K AST
RETRY
*
that's the configuration that the mainframe guy configured for me

Ahmed - looks reasonable. And the printer LU on your side is definitely LU
number 7 on the connection?

(Remember, it's irrelevant what name you give the LU in HIS, it matches on LU
number (locaddr=x) rather than the name.

When the printer starts in HIS and you see it go SSCP do you see the correct
LU go in session on the mainframe side?

Odd.

What you'll need is whatever trace tool your mainframe printer software
provides, plus (perhaps) a VTAM GTF trace and then the HIS SNA Print Service
trace. (And maybe a trace on the link service as well to see the frames coming
in)

In the first instance we need to see if the relevant packets are coming down
from the mainframe and getting to the HIS Server when you kick off a mainframe
print.

How are you initiating the print? Is it a batch job on the mainframe, or a
CICS printer, or is it a printer associated with the TN3270 display LU that
you're connecting with?

Ahmed,
Which mainframe are you using?
Is RSCS a CICS appl that is running on mainframe? When it is a CICS appl
that runs on Z/OS mainframe, CICS people have to make LU definition at CICS
side beside VTAM definition . I mean there are three definitions to be able
run print sessions or display sessions if host is Z/OS.
1)SNA server 2) VTAM 3) CICS

You can look at Sna server's event log if there is extra event message in
there. Also host guys could look at their log (if mainframe is Z/OS, netview
log would exactly say what the problem is. There should be a message
including SENSE code.)
Could you please send event log or netview message regarding this problem ?
Hope that helps.

what i know that the mainframe guy configured an LU for the printer as
indecated in the PU/LU configuration on my post and configured the RSCS for
the printer as indecated on the configuration on my previous message also
after that he tried to print and the problem that the printer status is
inactive
