We made a mistake and uninstalled share point services from our windows 2003
server, but our databases are still intact from a backup tape we have. How
in the world can i recover our share point services site and have it connect
back to the existing databases so i can retrieve the documents we placed in
there? thanks!

Reinstall sharepoint on the server, and then go to the Admin pages of it,
specifically Configure Virtual servers, extend one of the virtual servers
which will create a new content database. You can then go into the settings
of that virtual server within the WSS admin pages, and add another content
db (click Manage Content Databases), you should then be able to add the db
that still exists from your previous site.

there is only an "add new content database" nothing to add an existing
one... and trying the existing name with the add new just comes back with an
"already exists" error
