Hello,

After applying SP2 for Exchange 2003 I am no longer able to use OWA or OMA.
In the case of OWA I can bring up the initial login page but after entering a
username and password I get a Page Cannot Be Displayed http 500 error. In
the application log the following event is recorded.

Source: Application Error
Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Description:
Faulting application w3wp.exe version 6.0.3790.1830, faulting module
davex.dll, version 6.5.7638.1, faulting address 0x0005dfcd

I get the same error when trying to sync with OMA.

The install of SP2 was not entirely smooth. During my first attempt the
process moved without incident to the post install tasks but then hung up
while trying to start one of the services. After waiting for over an hour I
tried to cancel the install but it would not let me at that point. So I
ended task on the process. This essentially broke Exchange but my
subsequent attempt to install the service pack was successful and after this
everything seemed to work. That is until I tested OWA.

I would appreciate any insight into what might have happened and as to how I
can go about repairing things.

In IE go to tools, internet options, advanced tab, uncheck show friendly
http error messages or use firefox which does this by default I beleive.
Most often it will give you a clearer picture of the error message.
In my experiece http 500's are access issues many times and running filemon
or regmon both from sysinternals.com help get to the bottom of it.

I understand that you installed Exchange Server 2003 SP2 on your SBS
Server, and now you cannot access OWA and OMA. If I have misunderstood your
issue, please let me know.

Due to lack of detail error information, I need your help to gather
following information for further research.

1. As you mentioned the SP2 installation was not smooth even though it was
installed finally, so we need to double check whether you have successfully
installed SP2 on Server. Please help to gather following log files to
check:

a. C:\Exchange Server Setup Progress.log.

b. %userprofile%\local setting\Temp\eventlog.txt.

Please zip these two log files and send it to my mailbox as attachment:
v-branee@microsoft.com.

2. Open the OWA front page, please try Domain\Username & Password. Can you
access now?

3. If step 2 still fails, please help to gather more error information. To
do so, open IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Uncheck the
box "Show friendly HTTP error messages". Reproduce the issue, capture a
screen shot and send it to my mailbox.

4. Just double check, does this issue occur in LAN or from the Internet?

5. Can you reproduce the issue on the server console?

6. Can you access RWW, Companyweb?

Internet Connection Wizard:

Thanks for your help on this. I have sent you the items you requested. In
answer to your questions:

I have the same problem with OWA whether I try from the LAN, internet or
server console. Using Domain\User Name makes no difference.

I can log into RWW without a problem.

I cannot access Companyweb. When I try I get a 403--forbidden error.
However I cannot say if this ever worked as I have never used it.

I reran the CIECW as you suggested but the problem remains.

1. Expand to Server Management\Standard Management\Users. On the right
pane, click Add User to run the Add User Wizard. Use the newly created user
account to log on OMA and OWA, will this issue occur?

2. Does Outlook work?

3. Please help to gather IIS log for further research:

a) Go to Server Management\Advanced Management\Internet Information
Services\Yourserver(Local Computer)\Web Sites\Default Web Sites.

b) Right click Default Web Sites, select Properties, Web Site tab.

c) Check the box Enable Logging.

d) Click Properties. You will see that your log file directory. By default
it is c:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles.

e) Reproduce the issue. Go to c:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles if you did not
change the log file directory.

f) Paste the full content of the log file to the Newsgroup.

I created a new user account as you suggested but I get the same problem
when I use it to log in. Outlook does work fine.

I must say that I am a bit puzzled in looking at these as they seem to show
that at 14:28:51 owa was at least partially successful in loading while
subsequent attempts fail more or less outright. I saw no difference from the
user's perspective however.

It seems that not all logging fields have been turned on, so please help to
gather the IIS log again. Please see my detail steps below to turn on all
the logging fields.

a. Open IIS MMC, expand to Web Site\Default Web Site. Right click Default
Web Site and then click Properties.

b. Click Website tab and then check Enable logging.

c. Click Properties button. Advanced tab. Check all the boxes.

d. Stop the Default Website and rename the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles.

e. Restart the Default Website and reproduce the problem.

f. Go to the following folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles.

g. Send me the log file to my working email address
