Yep. Although I had to reinstall the upgrade a second time to actually
get it to complete successfully (Scanmail failed to work properly until
I did this).
Now it's working, I'm very impressed. The new "Dashboard" is much
easier to use than the older console, and it does a good job of
alerting you to things (the email notifications help here too).
Scanmail now integrates into this properly, and doesn't feel "bolted
on" anymore. Also, the menu's and dialogs look a lot more professional
and feel less clunky.
So then, apart from the slightly flaky install, a big thumbs up from me
(so far).

I installed it fresh on a new SBS2003 server and I have problems with
IE loading the ActiveX control for the security settings tab. It loads
part of the control then the browser freezes up! All other tabs seem
to work fine. I've installed Java and have been working with Trend on
this for 2 days now trying to resolve the issue. After being on the
phone with Trend for over an hour, trying this and trying that, we
finally got it to work for about 5 minutes. I rebooted the server,
went back in and not working again...browser still freezing up. Will
post results when solution is found.

It's common (in fact, happened on every in-place upgrade I did) to have to
run the install twice to get the scanmail piece upgraded. But the second
time it succeeds without issue.

That's bad information. What do you think the beta testers have been up to
;-/ ? Sometimes, Trend tech support doesn't know shat from shinola.
Especially when the product is brand new.
Please give me the name and contact information of the trend tech you spoke
to. Send to: les dot connor at cfive ca.
I now have CSM 3 running on 3 SBS networks with SBS SP1. In my case, any
'issues' are with feature changes from previous versions, not compatability.
Sorry, but I'm really busy and can't look into your issues at the moment.
The only issues I've heard of are with customized IIS settings, and such
things like IIS lockdown.
CSM 3 abosolutely works on SBS 2k3, whether it's up-to-date or not.
But there is no hurry - CSM 2 works just fine too. What don't you like about
2 that would make you want to go to 3, anyway?

Well, after 3 days of working with Trend, it turns out that CSM 3.0 has
not been tested on SP1 for SBS2003. Trend recommended I remove SP1 and
I told them no way. So it looks for now we'll be running version 2.0.
Again, if they come back to me with a solution for others experiencing
this problem, I'll be sure to post it.

I'm on the phone with their Level 2 support and supposedly they have
been bombarded with this issue all day today. We are working on a
resolution and if one is found, I will post, otherwise version 2.0 here
we come.

Re: Trend Micro CSM 3.0 |

Mariette Knapp (http://www.smallbizserver.net) and SBS MVP had that exact
behavior, and it was due to customizations she made in IIS to run the
smallbizserver web site. That's what I was referring to earlier, by
customized IIS.
<snip>
Found it. Because www.smallbizserver.net runs on this server I have done a
lot of customizations in IIS. One of them is that I use the building
compression feature and unfortunately when you add a site compressions is
turned on by default on static and dynamic content. I changed this back to
static compression only and voila...there is the Dashboard :-) This probably
also caused the upgrade to fail :-)
<endsnip>
Perhaps you could try posting on the forum there, or perhaps this
information helps Trend if you speaking with them.

Well, after another 4 hours of being on the phone with Trend today,
they don't have a solution for me. Their engineer logged into my
server thru a webex session and looked everything over but doesn't have
an answer. Supposedly the problem is now going to the developers
hands. He asked if I would like to continue troubleshooting and I just
told him when he has an answer for me, email it to me. In the mean
time, I have to get this server over to a client so I'm putting 2.0 on
and calling it a day.

Re: Trend Micro CSM 3.0 |

Les,
I appreciate all of your help. Unfortunately I have not made any
changes to IIS. This is a brand new install of SBS and it's pretty
much running with all default settings. After hanging up Trend
earlier, I noticed that the ActiveX control on the security settings
tab will come up if you let the browser just sit there for 10 minutes
or so. I was able to go in there and configure my settings but soon as
you click out to another tab and go back you gotta wait another 10
minutes, lol! I'm definately going to take your advice and post on her
website to see if she can give some feedback that we can then give to
Trend Micro. In regards to your prior post about being in a hurry,
actually I'm not. I just figured why not use this new server to test
the software and if it doesn't work, install ver 2.0 and deliver the
server. At least then I can have answers for my clients when they ask
about upgrading. I'm sure they've all gotten the email from Trend's
salesmen pushing the download of the new version. I have had no issues
with 2.0. I run it at the office and all my clients run it and it
works great.

This is probably no use, but when I access the dashboard using the
servers name I experience exactly the same issue. When I use the IP
address, it works fine.

Re: Trend Micro CSM 3.0 |

Hi Daniel,
Sure, that's a good point. Check and see what the shortcuts that the
installation builds have for a url. Considering things like SSL/IIS and ISA,
if installed - there is a bit more to consider than just install and go. In
an SBS context where in most cases the console is only accessed from the
server, or the lan, the security of the managment web site isn't a
priority - but it's there - and can get in the way if not configured just
right.
Like the other SSL sites on sbs, if the cert doesn't match then you're going
to see issues.

Re: Trend Micro CSM 3.0 |

Les, I posted on Mariėtte Knap's site and she has a solution to this
problem. I have a second SBS server which I upgraded to see if the
same thing would happen and it did. What I also noticed is that even
if you access the dashboard from a client workstation it locks up that
browser also. I once again applied her temporary solution and whala,
it worked again.
<snip>
OK, this is a temp fix. Open IIS admin and right click 'Websites'.
Choose the tab 'Services' and uncheck Static and Application files.
After you did this run iisreset from the command prompt. As I wrote
this is a temp fix and I will have a proper fix later this weekend.
<endsnip>
I forwarded this info to the engineer at Trend and hopefully they will
look into this and post some useful information for those experiencing
this problem instead of telling me it doesn't work with SP1.
Again, thanks Mariėtte and you for pointing me in the right direction.
