Prep Forest/Domain during working hours? |
|
|
I know when running the prep for exchange they recommend you disconnect your
DC from the network, do the same rules apply for LCS? I'd like to do the
prep during working hours but I obviously don't want to mess anything up.
Any advice is appreciated. |

I worked with a client that wanted to do this late in the day, but during
business. We did not notice any significant problems. They had several
datacenters and a solidly planned Active Directory environment.
My recommendation, however, is to perform this after hours. Personally, I
have never removed a server (schema master) from the network for an Exchange
2003 prep or an AD 2003 prep...but a team I worked with have changed around
routing and bridgeheads temporarily so that replicaiton was controlled.
Granted, it was a huge environment.

it depends. Sure it's always better to avoid as many interferences as you
can, but generally I think you can do that. But schema changes
always result in higher load on your domain controllers and your
network. Keep that in mind. Maybe you could schedule the
schema changes in a less busy timeframe...
