my full domain name is internal.companyname.com

I'm having a problem where if I ping a non-existant or illegal named domain
(ex: www.asdfdsagdasagagds.com) it appends part of my domain name to the end
of it like so and is then directed to our company's website:

www.asdfdsagdasagagds.com.companyname.com

Any thoughts?

This is because you use dns suffixes on the machines that gets this result.

To make changes to this go to advanced tcp/ip settings and click on the
DNS tab.
