Hi,

How do I go about allowing Agent Proxying on managed servers? I have
unchecked the tick box “Prevent agent from proxying for other computers or
network devices” in the Global settings so the MOM Management server should
now accept Agents proxying for other servers.
How do I now configure the managed servers to send Alerts to the MOM server
via another managed server?

Thanks,
Danny

Hello,

Thank you for your posting!

For the Agent Proxying, Please configure it on the Agent Managed Computers.

If you have any questions, please feel to let me know. I am glad to be of
assistance.

Thanks Daniel for your reply.

Where do I configure it on the Managed Computer? Do I change the Management
Server on some of the Agent Managed Computers to point to the Server that I
want to do the proxying?
There is not much configuration on the Agent Managed Computers.
Please advise.

Thanks,
Danny

Danny,

To enable agent proxying, you must make sure that in the Administrator
console under Global Settings/Agents on the Security tab, the option to
"Prevent agents from proxying for other computers and devices" is NOT
checked. At that point, the management server will stop trying to
verify that the source of the data being received matches the sender.
Agents will not automatically proxy, you will have to configure the
computers or devices that you want the agent to proxy for to forward
their data to the proxy agent. There is some material in the SDK on how
to do this for various Unix and non-Windows devices. Some of the
management packs such as SMS set up proxy agents as well. What type of
devices are you wanting to proxy for?

Thanks David for your reply.

Yeah, it’s the “you will have to configure the computers or devices that you
want the agent to proxy for to forward their data to the proxy agent” part
that I’m trying to find out. I will check out the SDK info as you suggested.
I was think of applying this to some of our customer sites – where we are
managing 2 or 3 servers. I was thinking of allowing one of the servers to act
as the Proxy Agent for the other few servers on site. This will also be the
strategy for Unix servers on our customers sites. If this is not best
practice, please let me know?

Thanks,
Danny
