Old cluster running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Old Kit.
New cluster running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. New Kit.
All connected to same SAN and members of the same 2000 native domain.

I would like to migrate all resources from the Old Cluster to the new Cluster.
I created a test cluster group along with a test disk resource. Ensured it
was working properly on both nodes of Old cluster. Deleted it as a resource
of the old cluster. Unpresented the disk from the Old cluster and presented
it to one node of the New cluster. Node detects the disk but sees it as
Unknown and Unreadable.

If rolling upgrades work where disks (and other resources) are assigned to
one 2000 node, while the other is upgraded, and then the disks (and other
resources) are flipped to the upgraded 2003 node while the other 2000 node
is upgraded, it suggests to me that it can't be a 'moving 2000 disk to 2003
problem'.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve the migration? Would
prefer not to upgrade the existing cluster to 2003 first if at all possible.

From the post, I am not very clear at what the exact question is and would
appreciate it if you could help to clarify.

1. Do you need to use a SCSI disk for the system in the virtual machine?

2. Do you want to form a server cluster by using virtual machines?

A virtual SCSI adapter is an optional component that you can add to a
virtual machine. Use of a SCSI adapter allows you to increase both the
storage size and number of virtual hard disks that the virtual machine can
use. You can configure as many as four SCSI adapters on a virtual machine.
Each SCSI adapter supports up to seven virtual hard disks of up to 2
terabytes each, for a total direct-connect storage capacity of over 56
terabytes per virtual machine.
