I am new to SharePoint so please bear with me here. I have setup STS on
a Windows 2003 Server with a SQL Server 2000 backend. I created a Team
site which contains one sub site. When I add an announcement, task, or
event it will show up. When I try to click on the link that I added I
am brought to and Error page that states:

External component has thrown an exception.

Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.

I have seen numerous posts regarding this error but none of them
explained how to resolve the issue and most of the posts pertained to
custom web parts and I believe these are considered default web parts
considering I never physically added them. Again, I am new to STS so my
terminology and understanding could be wrong. I am receiving the email
alerts and everything fine. I just cannot access the detail.

One other issue, I have a user setup with the Web Designer role. When
she clicks to add an announcement, task, or event a dialog box is
displayed prompting her to log in. If she closes the dialog box she is
able to proceed. She has permissions to the site. I also added the web
address as a trusted Intranet zone and set her security settings to
auto logon only in the Intranet zone. I had her login through a
different computer and she was not prompted. I assume this is a setting
on her computer but I do not know what setting would cause this
behavior.

Both of these issues do not affect the Document Workspaces.
