Recomendaion Please |
|
|
I have 4- 2003 Enterprise Servers. The plan is to build a cluster that will
include Exchange 2003 (1500 mailboxes), Print Services, File Services (Home
and Dept Drives), some niche application (Virtual Servers) and SharePoint
Portal to replace our intranet. I am seeing conflicting information on
weather to configure NLB or Server Cluster. I am also seeing conflicting in
weather Exchange should be on its own 2 server cluster.
Any recomedations?
Also, do Virual Servers offer load balancing as well as failover? |

Here we go...
| Quote: | Exchange for 1500 user mailboxes - its own MSCS cluster = YES; 2-server
cluster not necessarily, A/A/P? Really depends on your budget,
scalability needs for the future, Performance requirements now and future,
etc.
Print / File services - cluster = YES, NLB = not so much.
SharePoint - NLB = YES, MSCS Clustering = NO
Virtual Server 2005 - Cluster or NLB = NO
|
Hope this is helpful,

Opinions? always! :)
Yes, I'd think that's probably unnecessary horsepower for 1500 users -
unless 500 of them are account executives or vice-presidents. Plus, many
new servers are available as DualCore processors AND most new hardware will
run X64.
You could get a couple Dell PE1850 / 2850 dual-proc servers or HP DL360 /
380 / 385 dual-proc servers and stand up a Windows 2003 Enterprise X64
Cluster and run Exchange on that...
Of course, hardware never gets any better with time, so plan appropriately
now - you'll thank me later. :)
