Have to move a Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 and its users to another
windows-domain. I.e. user "[old domain]\john_smith" becomes "[new
domain]\john_smith"

Can anyone give a hint on where to find documentation on this issue?

Heard that SP2 for SPS2003 introduces new functionalitet in that area but
can't find documentation on that either.

Thanks in advance :-)

Whats new in WSS SP2 is here

http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=539

which is an extended version of the KB article on this.

There isn't such an extended version of what's new in SPS 2003 SP2 so you'll
have to look at the KB article which is here

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=887623

to see if there's anything new on moving users.

Thanks, but this issue is not mentioned in these articles.

Maybe I should rephrase my question:

Does anybody know of any functions and/or procedures in SPS2003 itself or
SPS administration tools to move/migrate to another domain?

I was only trying to answer this (part-)question

You might find that your re-phrased question would be better placed in the
SPS newsgroup

(microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver)

as you now seem to be concentrating on *SPS* admin tools which WSS users
won't have.

Hi Lars,

For this scenario, we have to remove the accounts in Sharepoint and then
add the new accounts (from new domain) into Sharepoint. This SPUserUtil
should be helpful on this scenario:
http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/downloads/components/detail.asp?a=724

Another way, we could write code to remove all the users in Sharepoint and
add the new account into the portal or wss site.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this
matter.

Best Regards,
Wei-Dong XU
