Laptop access for domain and a WG |
|
|
Main office on W2k domain, branch office on W2k3 workgroup. Is there a way
for a laptop setup in domain with a domain user to access resources in
workgroup (shared drive and printers)? I know we could change the laptop
from domain to WG but wouldn't that effect the domain user Outlook profile?
That is IF the user was logged in locally or to the WG they would have to set
up a new Outlook profile and get ther cached email all over again (Exchange
is hosted on the domain). The user does have WG account in the WG on the
shared driive and print server, I'm just trying to do this with a minimum of
fuss for the laptop user with email being very critical. In know the easy
way would be to switch brand to a domain and then trust the domains but that
cant be done currently. |

Well I do have the 2 offices connected via VPN yet the domain user that is in
branch office today cannot access the branch office shared resources. So how
does a VPN correct this?

Have the user log into the domain and access whatever non-domain resources
they need, providing the credentials when prompted. Many ways to do that -
net use x: \\otherserver\share /user:otherserver\username
etc.
Other options - MultiNetworkManager from Globesoft (I don't use this but
know many who like it).
I personally would consider setting up a VPN link between the two offices
and joining all the remote computers/servers to the domain, to make life
easier.

Net use doesn't work. get system error 1240. Acct is not authorized to
login from this station. Where on a work gruop could you add PC's? The user
has an account on the WG. I have laptop and WG PC in same subnet. The PC's
can ping each other. What am I missing here?
