Dear Bob,
Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2000/imclient.mspx
It stated that for windows 98 client, Live Communications Server 2005 with a partner Web Client solution, such as eDial or Exchange 2000 Server Instant Messaging Service with Exchange Instant Messaging Client 4.6 can be used.

Would you happen to have that link or that article?
It is possible to have 98 clients connect to Exchange 2000 IM (Windows
Messenger 4.x) if memory serves me correctly. However, it is not possible
to federate Exchange 2000 IM with LCS 2005 as there is not a common
protocol between them. Exchange utilizes the RVP protocol and LCS 2005
utilizes the SIP protocol.

[quote]Has anyone successfully deployeed LCS2005 and integrated it with
Exchange 2000 Server? I read an acticle which stated LCS2005 can be
integrated with Exchange 2000 Server to allow windows 98 client to
login. I tried to install Exchange 2000 Server but I didn't know how
to config it in order to integrate with LCS2005.
Thanks for your kindly help.

I will touch on the semantics, the web client, a possible Trillian Solution,
and the Microsoft web client in development...this is a LONG reply:
The problem appears to be semantical... (to paraphrase
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2000/imclient.mspx):
If you need IM for Windows 98 users within your corporation, you should
deploy LCS 2005 with a partner client solution, such as eDial.
<OR>
If you need IM for Windows 98 users within your corporation, you should
deploy Exchange 2000 Server Instant Messaging Service with the Exchange
Instant messaging client version 4.6
Unfortunately, the partner web client solution is all gone bye-bye. eDial
is no longer providing a web solution that interfaces with LCS. Did they in
the past? Yes, and it worked. However, there is this link to clarify any
questions as to the existence of a web client:
http://directory.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/rtc/Web_Client.aspx
It is, unfortunately, showing no clients that exist.
Yes, it is possible to utilize Exchange 2000 IM and the Exchange IM client
4.6 (Messenger 4.6) for IM services, but this will not give you integration
with LCS 2005. The follow-up client was Windows Messenger 4.7, which is not
compatible with 98, if memory serves me correctly. It *may* be possible to
utilize the "Communications Service Account" in Windows Messenger 4.6, but I
was not able to get it to work with 98 clients. I think this was based upon
an older version of SIP.
You *MIGHT* be able to utilize Trillian, and the SIP plug-in that Alex The
Blade was developing/is developing. If possible, could you test it with 98
and let us know, please?
http://www.zoosmart.us/sip/
Microsoft is developing a web-based client for LCS. I am not sure as to
whether or not it is compatible with Windows 98, but I remember reading
somewhere (I am not testing it and not under NDA, so what I read would have
been public) that it is tied to a minimum number of IE, or greater, meaning
that it would work with 98. MSN Search and Google search are not providing
me any hits, but it may have been a post in here from one of the Devs.
Regards,
Bob
While it does not actually say that Exchange 2000 IM can be integrated with
LCS 2005, it almost appears to say that.
