Status Report Notification |
|
|
This is the Third Time I've posted this!
I am posting this here because there is no Project Server newgroup in the
Managed lists. I've already talked to support about this and they are
looking to see why that group is not here. They told me to post it under
sharepoint.
We have a Project user who continually gets notifications from project
server for a Status Report which has been cancelled and deleted from the
system for 6 months or more. I have delete the report request from the
system and even disabled the report requstors accont (he no longer works for
us) yet she still recieves daily emails that the report is due.
BTW all servers (Project Server, SQL and WSS) reside on the same physical
server.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for looking for the Project newsgroups. It's interesting that
you're not able to see the microsoft.public.project or
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroups, though I'm sure your support
case will manage to get that sorted out. Regardless, I'm happy to work
with you here on this problem.
From your post, my understanding of this issue is: a user is receiving
reminders to submit status reports that have been deleted. If this is not
correct, please feel free to let me know.
I'd like to confirm that you've got the latest updates installed for the
system. There are some known issues with SP2 for Project Server at this
point related to RBS, so I am recommending that users continue with SP1
until these issues are resolved. Please apply both server and client service
packs and retest the problem. You can find more information here:
Description of Project Server 2003 Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=837241
Please see the "Determine whether the service pack is installed " link in
the above article for information about determining the version and the
build number of Project Server 2003 that is installed on the server.
For the SQL installation of Project Server SP1, confirm that the correct
..sql files are installed on the system.
SP1 should display something along the lines of 11.1.2004.0.1707.15.
Project Server 2003 SP1:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1b04c073-e58f-4f42-
b76d-6b565a45cdc3&displaylang=en
If you would like to check the database to see whether the status report is
still in the dataset, you can try the below query in Query Analyzer:
Please run the below query to confirm that the status report has truly been
deleted:
Use ProjectServer
Go
select * from MSP_WEB_STATUS_REPORTS
You can review the WREPORT_NAME field for the name of the deleted status
report.

I would like to check a couple of obvious thing with you. I noticed a
similar case, where both the Support Engineer and the contact on the
customer side were very experienced and savvy. After about a month of
working on the problem and trying numerous things, it turned out to be an
old copy of the database running on a testing server that was sending the
reminders. So, I'd like to make sure we're not running into something
obvious like that. =)
Another case had the users reporting that the reminders were from a deleted
status report, but the report showed up in the PWA > Status reports >
Status reports archive list. Please have the user confirm in PWA that the
status report in question is not in this list.
I believe that this problem should be resolved by either applying Service
Pack 1, or that we will find a different problem in the environment.
However, it is entirely possible that there is something else going on,
which will require extensive, in-depth analysis of both your environment
and your data.
Based on my experience, a problem as complex as this may take extensive
time to narrow down. If the issue is urgent, you may want to work with
Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) for a faster resolution. Once
you open a Support incident with Microsoft CSS, a dedicated Support
Professional can work with you in a more efficient manner.
NOTE: Our private partner newsgroup is focused on break fix issues that are
neither urgent, nor complex. If the issue is urgent to your business, it is
recommended that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) via
telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can help you resolve
your issue in a more efficient manner. Please be advised that contacting
phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for a specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.

Please let me know your progress with the above information so that I can
provide further assistance on this problem. I look forward to your reply.
Hope this helps!

I run the query you suggested to see that it was deleted from the table. SP1
has been installed since it was released in 2004 and the client SP1 was
slipstreamed into our Project Pro image so all users are running that as
well. I have a feeling I'll find that the report wasn't actually removed
from the table.
I'll let you know what I find.... thank you for following up.
As far as the NG is concerned I'm accessing them from here
which has an expanding menu on the left, none of the project news groups show
there. If you start from the Non-managed newsgroups link then you are able
to see the Project groups. It's very strange. I reported this to the NG
managers some time ago and it's still not resolved. They stated I should
post on the Sharepoint groups even though this issue is not Sharepoint
related.

Hello Jay,
Please let me know what you find with running the query and looking into
the other potential environmental issues I mentioned previously.
As this is really a Project question, I'm unsure as to why you would be
directed to post in the SharePoint newsgroup, particularly as you have a
way to the correct newsgroup (starting from non-managed). I would like to
follow up with the specific case where you were told to post to this group.
If possible, could you tell me the NG, initial post date, and subject line
of the thread where you were given this information?
Also, if you use Outlook Express, or another direct newsgroup reader, you
should be able to go directly to the public newgroups at
microsoft.public.... Using IE, you can also directly access all Office
newsgroups at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?d=1, including
the groups for Project and Project Server.
microsoft.public.project.server can be accessed directly here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.pu
blic.project.server&lang=en&cr=US
Please let me know as you get more information. I look forward to hearing
back from you.
Best,
Dana

I've run the query and the report has two entries in the table. Can I simply
delete the two entries to resolve the problem?

RE: Status Report Notification |

Hi Jay,
Please do not delete these records from the database, we just needed to
have a peek at what's there. ANY direct manipulation (adding, deleting,
modifying) of the data for ProjectServer is ALWAYS a last ditch effort.
Please also tell me exactly HOW you deleted the status report originally.
What were the exact steps that you followed?
I understand that when you run the query:
Use ProjectServer
Go
select * from MSP_WEB_STATUS_REPORTS
You see two records.
Locate the status report in question in the WREPORT_NAME field then check
the WREPORT_IS_ENABLED field and confirm whether it's 0 or 1.
IF the WREPORT_IS_ENABLED field is 0, it's been deleted, if 1 it's still
active. If the 'deleted' report is showing as 1, we can first check to
make the setting in PWA.
1) PWA > Status Reports
2) Delete a status report so your team members no longer have to respond to
it
3) Select the correct WREPORT_NAME from the dropdown
4) Click OK twice.
This will update the WREPORT_IS_ENABLED field to 0, and you should no
longer receive notifications.
If for some reason you are not able to perform the above steps in PWA, then
you may consider manually updating the record in the database. Again, this
is a last resort, and a bigger concern is how did the problem happen like
this.
update msp_web_status_reports set wreport_is_enabled=1 where wreport_name =
'<your report name here>'
Please note that when you delete 'status reports' in the PWA Clean up
Project Server database page, you are only deleting submitted reports, not
the actual request.
Please let me know if this helps.
Best,
Dana
