Imagine a take a netmon trace of http traffic.
Can I verify whether such content is coming from caching ?

try to use one of the tools from
http://ircdb.org
it shows network traffic at socket level and file I/O operations
or
http://smike.ru
the same as previous but oriented to HTTP/HTTPS
