I have a GPO that I've used to install the Communicator eval for the
last 4 months. Now that the eval has expired I thought I'd just need
to replace the Communicator.msi file with the full version and
redeploy. When the user logs in I get the "Installing managed software
Microsoft Office Communicator 2005" prompt and it appears to install
fine. I even look in the event log and it gives me the "Removal of
Communicator succeeded" and "Reinstall of Communicator succeeded"
messages. Yet when I try to open Communicator it still says
"Communicator cannot open because the eval has expired" message. I'm
only able to successfully open the program if I do a manual install of
the same full version msi file that the GPO just installed. Why won't
redeploying the new msi file in my GPO work?

Where did you even get this "Full Version" of Communicator? I just
received my software yesterday and its only got one cd, and that is
used to install LCS. I can't find anywhere on the cd where you can
install a full version of Communicator. The communicator eval we've
used from microsoft lets me install with the Full Version LCS cd key,
but i still get the message saying my eval has expired when trying to
run Communicator.

The upgrade from eval to production of the LCS server itself seems to
have gone smoothly, but in 4 days everyone's Communicator will
expire... must solve this before then....

You need to contact your VAR to get the Office Communicator 2005 media
from Microsoft. It is not part of the LCS media. It's a separate disk
that isn't even available as a download. It's a pain but it is
available.

Interested to see if you figure out a way around your dilema. Mine was
deployed with SMS so i'll perform the upgrade the same way. This LCS
product is a complicated little animal as far as licensing and installs
go...
