The RPC server is unavailable |
|
|
Hello!
When I run the DFS wizard I get: "the following error occurred while
creating DFS root on server: severname. The RPC server is unavailable" when I
press Finish. Remote Procedure call service is running on both machines.
Running DFS on a windows 2003 DC
Target (host) windows 2003 sp1
I think that it have something to do with sp1, because I can target other
windows 2003 without sp1.
Do I have to have SP1 on both machines?
Regards

Re: The RPC server is unavailable |

Hello!
Okay
On my DC I want to start a DFS.
- Domain root
- [domain]
- host: other win 2003 server with sp1
- [name]
- share [shared folder]
- Then the error message (the following error occurred...)
This is the way. If I point the root to another win 2003 server it works. If
Link the root to the machine that dont work with root, the link works.
No firewall is on.
Difference between root and link?

Can you elaborate a bit on what you are trying to do? Are you adding a new
root? If so, what type? Can you run through the steps? I will then go
through the wizard and see what is happening.
I doubt it's SP1, unless you've enable the firewall...

There is no firewall running on the server.
It is a member of the domain.
there is no problem running DFS the other way.

nslookup -type=srv _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain-name.com
Also, is the firewall on on that server? Is that server a member of the
domain and are you running as administrator?
