Cisco SIP Handset registering to LCS |
|
|
I have configured a LCS SE server and can register messenger/communicator
clients.
I have a few Cisco 7940 handsets laying around and have upgraded them to the
latest SIP client.
I would now like to be able to register these handsets to the LCS server and
be able to make calls from the hardware based SIP handset to the
communicator.
Can any one help me with the steps required to complete this, I am not
looking for 3rd party call control.
Thanks |

I don't believe the Cisco phones support NTLM/Kerberos authentication, so
you would have to register them with their registrar/gateway and then have
that server pass messages on to LCS (set up the server as a trusted host).
The Cisco phones can't just register against LCS today like
communicator/messenger since they don't support the authentication protocols
that are necessary to do so.

Polycom phones have been supporting NTLM/Kerberos for awhile, I'd be
surprised to hear Cisco doesn't yet.

Have you actually tested Polycom equipment with NTLM or Kerberos
authentication? I had access to a Polycom VSX3000 unit and failed to find
any mention of the authentication methods in the documentation. However they
do instruct to disable authentication for the unit's IP address.

I've not but Polycom support their products with LCS so I suspect a call to
support would help. As of LCS2005 they are a Microsoft partner.
I've only read through docs myself yet though.

I have seen the polycom handsets registering direct to LCS. If I configured
an Access Proxy could this be a way of registering the Cisco handsets ?
