Hi All,

Just a quick question about setting up a DFS root. Is it possible to
create the actual Root based on a hidden share. It appears to me if
you try and create a stand alone root through the gui, it takes the
name you enter for the root and creates that as the share name.

I tried to manually create a folder and made it a hidden share, then
when the gui requested a folder for the root I entered the path to the
folder I had created. It then created another share (not hidden) using
the root as the share name.

I am trying to setup a cascaded DFS. One DFS domain root and multiple
standalone DFS roots. I don't want users to access the standalone
roots directly, instead they will redirect there via the domain link to
the standalone root.

To do this I planned to create all standalone roots based on hidden
shares ($). This way they would not appear in the browser.

Any help appreciated.

Anthony.

Can you simply give the dfs root name a name with a dollar ($) symbol
appended?

It's the workstation service that hides shares based on the $ on the end -
nothing else. If you are able to create the name with a dollar it will be
shared with a dollar.
